📖Thin Blue Li(n)e ✍️Brian Cook
Thin Blue Li(n)e, from Brian Cook, starts off in a commencement ceremony of police officials in the city of Vasco. The story starts with the higher officials with their personal problems to go into the serious parts like murder, relocating of the native people, politics both internal as well as external and daily hiccoughs in the life of police personnel. This book is the sequel of Hands Across The Sea by Brian Cook. Though, I have not read that book, it was not hard for me to get on with the plot. The plot mainly revolves around the police force of the Vasco city. Their personal, professional lives and the secrets hidden from the past. From complicated parents to problematic romance. The story mostly revolves around the internal politics within the police department and other bureaucrats and politicians of the Vasco city.
The Positive of the book is not having a single story line but a multiple of them to go through. There are multiple characters each with their own stories and stories which intervenes with each other's. Each story is happening simultaneously and each of them are interesting like revenge on a bad father, wrongly convicted accused's plea, finding the killer of one's mother, an old man with a chronic disease who has secrets to share and much more. It's good to know about the conversations they have inside the police personnel. Their bro-mance, always on the front seat to face the threat was great to read.
Now the negative part, having multiple characters is good for the plot, but at certain point it feels like there are too many characters and it is hard to follow them. To name a few characters- Callaghan, Cottrell, Ulrich, Talitha, Vikki, Seth, Asa, Geathers, Phoebe, Rachel, Olivia, Mila, Sofia, Alexander, Bob, Gigi, Harwell and many more. The stories are great but ends without climaxes, so another sequel is expected to know all the answers.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. As at times, I feel lost by the multiple characters.
The book is exceptionally well edited. This is a really enjoyable book with multiple stories. Unlike other police stories which revolve mainly around the criminal's background, this book main tells us the unknown side that is from the perspective of the police and their interpersonal relationships -both good and bad.
There are multiple explicit usage of words and racist comments throughout the book as it involves the hierarchical internal politics inside the police department. So, it is only suitable for adults.I will recommend this book for those who want to take a ride into the personal and professional life of Police and are up for an interesting read.
